Final Night of 2009’s Sunken Garden Poetry: Nature Joined In

The finish of 2009’s Sunken Garden Poetry festival was magical.  The rain held off, and we gathered under a tent or all around, some of us with picnics, some simply enjoying the atmosphere.

Two poets shared their earthy and moving work.  And nature joined in.  Below is a list of birds and others whose sounds and presence mixed with poetry last night.

American Robin
Cardinal
Downy Woodpecker
Red-Bellied Woodpecker
Chimney Swifts
Baltimore Oriole
Grackle
Chickadee
Eastern Bluebird
House Finch
Goldfinch
Song Sparrow
Chipping Sparrow
Cedar Waxwing
Mourning Dove
Catbird
Wood Thrush
Hermit Thrush
Blue Jay
Mallard Ducks
Tree Swallows
(21 species)

Dobsonfly
Crickets (only one lone Snowy Tree Cricket)

Groundhog

We’ll be back next year and will look for you there.

See you on the trails,
Diane Tucker, Estate Naturalist
